Un verdadero icono de la lucha libre dejó el mundo. El norteamericano representante del bando de los rudos Harley Race falleció este jueves a la edad de 76 años, víctima del cáncer de pulmón, anunció su familia en Twitter.

Race sumó 1,799 días, en ocho reinados combinados, como campeón mundial de la National Wrestling Alliance (en su momento, la organización más prestigiosa de lucha libre en el mundo). Además, fue premiado como luchador del año en dos ocasiones diferentes (1979, 1983) por la Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
Se le recuerdan visitas a México donde llegó a defender su cetro ante Halcón Ortíz en la Arena México.
